Some places just steal your heart, and Sausage Tree Camp in the Lower Zambezi National Park did exactly that for us. For three incredible nights, we called the Kigelia House home - a gorgeous family suite that gave us front-row seats to the Lower Zambezi.
Our Home Away From Home: The Camp and Rooms
The main area quickly became our favorite place to relax, enjoy meals, and take in the never ending views of the Zambezi River. Every meal was delicious, made with fresh, local ingredients, and shared with fellow guests in a relaxed yet elegant atmosphere. The bar was the perfect spot to unwind after a day of safari, where we sipped on a cocktails and enjoyed a chilled drink as we swapped stories of our day. The camp main area also has an infinity pool and a gym for those who like to stay active.
The luxury suites are the definition of comfort and elegance. Each suite is designed with both style and practicality in mind, blending seamlessly into the natural surroundings while providing a lavish retreat. Large canvas walls open to views of the Zambezi River, letting you feel like you're part of the landscape. The interiors are beautiful with plush king-size beds, elegant furnishings, and a spacious en-suite bathroom that features both an indoor and outdoor shower, as well as a soaking bath tub with river views. Each suite also has a private deck with plunge pool, where you can relax, sip your morning coffee, or watch wildlife as it comes and goes from the riverbank.
If you're seeking a more exclusive experience, Kigelia House is a two-bedroom private villa, offering complete seclusion and luxury. The spacious villa is perfect for families, friends, or couples seeking both privacy and luxury. The heart of Kigelia House is the open-plan living area that flows seamlessly into the outdoor deck with private pool, which overlooks the Zambezi River - ideal for sunrise and sunset moments.
Safari Game Drives

Every morning, we set off on safari game drives, eager to see what the bush had in store. We were lucky with some amazing sightings from a leopard lounging in a tree, lions resting in the shade, and elephants moving peacefully along the riverbanks. The park was full of life, from impala grazing to playful baboons darting across the roads.
Evening drives were just as special. As the sun set, painting the sky in deep oranges and pinks, we watched the bush come alive in a different way. With a spotlight guiding the way, we tracked nocturnal animals and listened to the distant calls of predators. Before heading back to camp, we stopped along the banks of the Zambezi for sundowners where we sipped on G&Ts while watching the river reflect the last light of the day. It was the perfect way to soak in the magic of the Lower Zambezi.
Tiger Fishing on the Zambezi
One morning, we swapped game drives for the river and tried our hand at tiger fishing. These fish put up quite a fight, making for an exciting challenge! Drifting along the Zambezi, with hippos and crocodiles nearby and elephants crossing in the distance, was an experience in itself.
Unforgettable Dining in the Bush
Sausage Tree Camp went above and beyond with their surprise dining experiences. One afternoon, we were taken by boat to a secluded sandbank island for a private lunch, just us, our feet in the water, and a delicious meal. It was the perfect way to soak in the beauty of the Lower Zambezi.
After an evening game drive, just when we thought we were heading back to camp, we were surprised with a bush dinner under the stars. We sat around a fire with lanterns flickering, and the sounds of the wild all around us. It was the perfect way to end our stay.
In Conclusion
From the expert guiding to the small personal touches, everything about our stay was exceptional. Whether you're looking for incredible wildlife, unique experiences, or just a stunning place to unwind, Sausage Tree Camp has it all.
A huge thank you to the incredible team at Sausage Tree Camp for making our stay so memorable. From the warm hospitality to the incredible experiences, every detail was perfect and we cannot wait to for our L&L travellers to experience the magic of Sausage Tree Camp.
