We recently spent a wonderful week with friends and family at this luxury private camp in the Timbavati Private Nature Reserve in South Africa. Here's a glimpse at what a stay at Eagle Owl Camp looks like.
The Camp - A Lush Oasis
Walking into Eagle Owl Camp feels like discovering a hidden oasis. The shade of Apple Leaf and Bush Willow trees forms a natural canopy, and the camp fits so effortlessly into its surroundings along the banks of the Machantane River. The suites and main areas are thoughtfully positioned and connected by walkways that blend seamlessly with the bush.

The open-plan kitchen and dining area have an easy, welcoming vibe, the kind of place where mornings start with good coffee and evenings end with laughter.
Just a few steps away, the bar and lounge open out onto a deck with a pool, perfectly positioned to overlook the river and a nearby watering hole. It’s hard to describe the feeling of sitting there, watching elephants slowly make their way to drink, their presence so calm and grounding. It’s one of those moments where you forget about everything else and just soak in the magic of being in the bush.

Evenings at camp are particularly special. The enclosed boma offers a cozy space to gather, but for me, the fire pit is where the magic happens. Sitting by the flames, you feel completely in tune with the sounds and energy of the bush. The low animal fence around the camp gives just enough security to feel safe while still keeping you close to the wild.
The Eagle Owl Suites - a Haven to Return to after a Day of Activities

The Eagle Owl Suites are the perfect place to come back to after a day out exploring.
Set along the riverbank, each suite is surrounded by the quiet sounds of the bush, giving it a peaceful, tucked-away feel. Floor-to-ceiling glass sliding doors with protective mesh let in plenty of natural light and the sights of the bush while keeping you comfortable inside.
The interiors are spacious and simply understated luxury. Whether you’re stretching out on the cozy bed or just enjoying the calm atmosphere, the suites are a relaxing retreat where you can unwind and feel close to nature.
Morning and Evening Game Drives with our Incredible Tracker, Lucas!
Our mornings at Eagle Owl Camp started with a quiet coffee in the kitchen area before heading out into the bush. Lucas, our tracker, was always ready with a big smile and a deep knowledge of the wildlife, making every game drive feel like an adventure.

A real highlight of the mornings was stopping in the middle of the bush for coffee and rusks. There’s something special about standing in the open air, coffee in hand, with the bush coming alive around you. The evenings had their own magic too. After a day of exploring, we would stop for sundowners—cold gin and tonics, biltong, and a few snacks—while the sky turned golden and the animals seemed to move in slow motion.
Over the course of our stay, we were lucky enough to see rhino, leopard, lion, elephant and buffalo, along with plenty of giraffe, zebra, and impala. Each drive was different, and Lucas made sure we didn’t miss a thing. These moments in the bush were the kind you’ll remember long after you leave.

And That's a Wrap
A big thank you to the amazing team at Eagle Owl Camp for giving us an experience we’ll never forget! We can’t wait to share this incredible destination with our L&L travelers soon—it’s a place that truly captures the magic of the bush.
