During our recent tour of the Stellenbosch Wine Route, we spent the night at the beautiful Vergenoegd Low Boutique Hotel & Spa - a charming retreat amidst the picturesque landscape of South Africa's renowned wine region.
A Warm Welcome
Upon arrival, we were greeted with warm hospitality, setting the tone for a memorable stay. The revamped welcome area and friendly staff made our check in seamless and we were escorted to our room within minutes of arriving.

A Deluxe Lodge Room was our haven for the night and it certainly was beyond our expectations. Kept in a modern classic style, the spacious bedrooms feature hardwood floors, plush chenille rugs, and calming tones of cream and grey, creating an immediate sense of warmth and coziness. Big glass doors lead onto a private outdoor area, equipped with a private Jacuzzi - making it a tranquil slice of heaven for our stay.
A Tour of the Estate
After we had checked in to our room, we were taken for a tour of the estate by Angelo, the most welcoming and friendly General Manager. As we began our tour of the grounds, we were transported back in time by the historic estate, with its timeless elegance of Cape Dutch architecture and lush gardens that reflect the regions rich heritage.
Clara's Barn - A Dining Experience Like No Other!
Stepping into Clara's Barn, an imprint of renowned South African chef, Bertus Basson, we were greeted by the warm and inviting atmosphere, where the rich history of the building blends seamlessly with its contemporary design.
Our culinary journey started off with a glass of Vergenoegd Chenin Blanc MCC, which was light and delicious, just as bubbles should be. We were then served a diverse selection of dishes that highlighted the best of local produce and flavors. From indulgent starters to hearty mains and irresistible desserts, each creation is a testament to the commitment of quality and creativity offered at Clara's Barn. Needless to say, we left with full tummy's and happy hearts and will definitely be going back!
The Breakfast Duck Run
Our breakfast the next morning was a truly unique experience thanks to the presence of the Indian Runner Ducks. As we sat down for our breakfast, we were greeted by the delightful sight of these distinctive ducks waddling through the lush gardens and vineyards surrounding the dining area.
Originating from Southeast Asia, Indian Runner Ducks are known for their slender, upright posture and distinctive gait, resembling that of a wine bottle balanced on a pedestal. At Vergenoegd, these charismatic birds play an essential role in sustainable farming practices, contributing to the estate's pest control efforts in a natural and eco-friendly manner.
